As we know, in Tajikistan (as in many countries) there are problems with unemployment and corruption. And so, in Tajikistan many people have migrated to Russia for work. Over time, students have started to go to work and leave school with the thought that they would be able to simply purchase a certificate (diploma) when the time comes for graduation. But they forget that a piece of paper called “certificate is- nothing without knowledge. Here the question arises, do their parents think of sending their children out to work or to study?
In Tajikistan, you can easily purchase a certificate or diploma, even if you did not study and were out of the country. You just have to pay, and after some days you can get a certificate with excellent grades and graduate high school with “pride”. The real cost for a certificate nowadays is $100.
In July 2011, I interviewed one person, Khikmatullo- a first-year student of economics, department management at one of the biggest universities in Dushanbe. He shared with me how much it cost him to get a certificate for high school graduation. He was expelled by the administration of the university because of the fact that they found out he had a fake certificate. As he told me, he was in a Tajik-Turkish high school in the Sughd Region. Khikmatullo dropped out of school in the 10th grade and went to Russia for work with his uncles. Education should be valued, not purchased.
